Ruta 40 is the most famous road in Argentina, and it's definitely a must - ride for bikers. The road runs parallel to the Andes all the way South to the Argentinean Patagonia. Here's what Wiki says about it:

'Route 40 is the longest route in Argentina and one of the longest in the world (along with the U.S. Route 66, Canada's Trans-Canada Highway and the Stuart Highway in Australia—without counting the unofficial Panamerican Highway), more than 5,000 km (3,107 mi) long. At its traditional southern end near the city of Río Gallegos it starts at sea level, crosses 20 national parks, 18 major rivers, 27 passes on the Andes, and goes up to 5,000 m (16,404 ft) above sea level in Abra del Acay in Salta'.

The section between Tamel Aike and Tres Lagos is unpaved; it's mostly loose gravel with some graded parts. There is no fuel in that section, either, so make sure you're good for about 250 kilometers or more (gas stations in Tres Lagos and Bajo Caracoles are sometimes closed). There are no towns or villages along that gravel section, either; population in that area is extremely sparse.

It's one of the loneliest roads in the whole South American continent, so if you're riding it alone it's a pretty unforgettable experience.

Make sure you stop at el calafate and visit the Perito Moreno Glacier.

Būnant Argentinoje motociklininkams tiesiog būtina juo pravažiuoti - Ruta 40 bėga palei Andus iki pat Pietų Patagonijos. Šis kelias taip pat yra vienas ilgiausių pasaulyje - jis tęsiasi virš 5000 kilometrų ir kerta 20 nacionalinių parkų, 18 upių, 27 Andų perėjas ir aukščiausiame taške siekia 5 kilometrus aukščio.

Kelio dalis tarp Tamel Aike ir Tres Lagos yra neasfaltuota - gresia virš 230 kilometrų žvyrkelio. Teritorija beveik negyvenama, benzino yra Tres Lagos ir Tamel Aike, bet geriau pasirūpinti rezervu bent 300 kilometrų, nes degalinės ne visuomet veikia.
