Riding above the Arctic Circle in Europe is way more civilized than Alaska; the roads are well paved, there's petrol stations, towns, coffee shops and excellent wi- fi everywhere. It's not much of a challenge and it's doable on any type of bike but it's a lovely ride nonetheless.

Be aware of reindeer - they are everywhere, and they ignore you completely. Honking and revving your engine doesn't help at all - they just hang out on the road and won't budge whatever you do. Best to just slow way down and ride around them. We've seen a serious accident where a biker hit a reindeer. The reindeer was killed instantly; the rider was being lifted into an ambulance as we stopped to see if we could help and it looked like he would be OK, but the bike was completely totaled. Ride carefully!

Be aware of extortionate prices: fuel in Finland will cost you around 1.50 Euro; on the Norwegian side, it's around 1.75 Euro. Beer is around 6-7 Euro on the Finnish side and from 10-11 Euro on the Norwegian side; we simply carried a 0.7 bottle of Jim Beam with us as we couldn't afford the cerveza🙂 Finland is at least twice as expensive as Germany, and Norway is easily three times more expensive. We camped almost all of the way and cooked our own food but the costs were still massive compared to the rest of Europe.

Cabins: a great way out if you're freezing and tired of camping. A 2-4 people cabin can cost you anywhere between 150 and 600 Norwegian krona (15 to 70 Euro) per night. Campsite prices are around 15-30 Euro per night plus you'll have to pay extra for hot showers and wi - fi. Wild camping is allowed anywhere as long as there isn't a sign 'no camping'.

Getting to Nordkapp: the Nordkapp tunnel is free, but the entrance to Nordkapp is nearly 60 Euro for a bike and two people. Want to go there for free? Go after 1am when the ticket office is closed (as Nordkapp is way above the Arctic Circle it never really gets dark there in the summer).

Kad ir kaip egzotiškai skambėtų, pasivažinėjimas motociklu virš Poliarinio rato toli gražu nėra sudėtingas reikalas, bent jau Europoje: tiek Suomijos, tiek Norvegijos pusėje keliai puikiai asfaltuoti, visur pilna degalinių, kavinių, miestelių ir veikia bevielio interneto ryšys. Nordkapas prieinamas bet kokio tipo motociklu - tereikia atsipalaiduoti ir mėgautis vaizdais🙂

Pasisaugokite šiaurės elnių - jie kone visur vaikšto tiesiog ant kelio ir absoliučiai nieko nesibaido. Geriausia tiesiog stipriai pristabdyti ir juos apvažiuoti, nes pypsėjimai ir variklio birbinimai jiems nedaro jokio įspūdžio. Pravažiuodami matėm kraupoką avariją - motociklininkas partrenkė šiaurės elnią; elnias pakratė kojas vietoje, motociklininką tuo metu, kai važiavom pro šalį, kėlė į greitosios pagalbos automobilį - panašu, kad jam viskas bus OK - bet iš motociklo tebuvo likęs toks suglamžytas metalo gabalas. Atsargiai!

Kainos tiek Suomijoje, tiek Norvegijoje kraugeriškos. Benzinas Suomijos pusėje kainuoja1.50 Euro, Norvegijos - apie1.75 Euro. suomiškas alus atsies virš 6-7 eurų, norvegiškas - 10-11 eurų, todėl mes tiesiog vežėmės 0.7 litro butelaitį Jim Beam🙂 Maistas irgi brangus; iš esmės, Suomijoje viskas dukart brangiau, nei Vokietijoje, o Norvegijoje - triskart brangiau. Mes beveik visur nakvojome palapinėje ir patys gaminomės maistą.

Jei visai šalta ir nebesinori net galvoti apie palapinę, išeitis - rąstiniai nameliai, kurių kainos - nuo 15 iki 70 eurų už naktį. Kempingų kainos - 15 - 30 eurų už naktį, be to, beveik visur teks papildomai mokėti už dušus ir internetą. Statytis palapines galima bet kur - jei nėra ženklo 'no camping', kelias stovyklauti laisvas.

Įvažiavimas į Nordkapą: tunelis į salą yra nemokamas, bet už įvažiavimą į patį Nordkapą mes paklojom 60 eurų (motociklas ir du žmonės). Norite patekti nemokamai? Važiuokite naktį po pirmos valandos, kai viskas uždaryta. Baltos naktys už poliarinio rato trunka iki pat rugpjūčio galo - tamsu nebus🙂
